So I finished the hat in about 2 hrs! Well it’s easily done when you use the thickest wool and the largest needles you own.

Please excuse my poor appearance – no make up and yeah I’m wearing my p.j.’s 🙂

A great deal of the yarn in my stash came from my grandma after she passed away a few years ago. Recently my mom gave me a box of 6-strand carded wool. The wool is only carded and not spun. You’re supposed to twist it a bit as you knit. I’m not sure if you can even purchase it anymore. I took it because it came in beautiful natural colours of characol grey, cream and chocolate brown. I remember the winter jacket my grandmother made out it for my mom years ago.Nostalgia play a role in my decision to take this wool. I had no idea what I could make with it – not a coat because there wasn’t enough wool and I don’t think I’d have the patience for it.

Well I finally know at least a few things I could make that will be super warm and fast to knit up using this wool. A lovely new hat and scarf for me! Here’s the hat so far – I knit this up in about 15 mins.

I think I’ll have a hat by the end of the weekend. Sometimes it’s okay to be selfish.

I’ve finished the first of the second pair of mittens. Next in line is a pair of mittens for me. I made the fingerless gloves with a mitten flap a few years ago and that pair is great for day-to-day wear, but not very good for playing in the snow with the girls. The snow gets under the flap making the mitts rather useless.

Hurray I got my Raverly t-shirt on Friday. I’ve been so busy though that I forgot to get a picture of me wearing it and now it’s in the wash :(. So I guess the photo is  to come later.

I’ve started on another pair of pre-schooler mittens – they are fun to make because they go quickly. I’ve got aspirations to knit two cotton bedspreads for the girl’s new twin size beds and to knit a bathmat. I think I need my head checked. I’m so busy with work and life in general it’s hard to just sit and knit.

I haven’t worked much on Jackson’s sweater. Life during the Fall is very busy for me, so knitting often slows down a lot during this time.

Practicality has brought to my attention the need to knit mittens for the girls. One pair isn’t going to cut it now that they go to daycare and school. Little A misplaced her mittens for a week already and she barely needs them yet. I’ve only made one mitten (pictured below). The mitts have no pattern really, I based them on Winter Set pattern I did last year, just changing the type of stitches I used, such as a honey comb pattern for the base without any ribbing.

It’s been a bit slow but I started this sweater for my cousin’s baby, Jackson:

I changed the stripes and the colour of stripes so I could use up some cotton in my stash. If I get a chance I’ll post an image of Debbie Bliss’ pattern from Easy Knits.

13 days of radiant innocence
Tiniest of babes
I couldn’t hold

One day less two weeks
I held you in my heartbroken arms
For the first and last

I held you
Bathed you
And laid you to rest

My dearest daughter, Samantha today I’m thinking of you – as I do everyday. There’s an emptiness I can never fill but thank you for being here for however brief.

Love,
Mom

Poor Shadow, although the blockage is gone and the infection appears to be gone now he’s throwing up and not eating. He’s seeing the vet this afternoon and I hope they can figure out what’s wrong. I called the emergency clinic this morning and they said what I suspect is the problem, he’s probably reacting poorly to the meds. I hope it’s just that and not another problem. Poor little guy is so skinny and pretty weak – although he still has a bit of fight in him. I’m glad we don’t have shove anymore pills down his throat.

I have been knitting and I really want to post some pictures, but life is hectic right now. I really hope it gets better soon. The cardigan is moving along slowly but I love the way it’s turning out. I had to change the colours (I’m using a few less), because I’m using some yarn from my stash. It’s plain old garter stitch – the perfect no-brainer project for a stress out knitter. I’ll try and get some pictures up today or tomorrow. Oh yeah did I mention I got a nasty virus of sorts on my computer? Another reason I haven’t posted pictures, because I’ve been posting entries from work and, well I don’t think they’d be happy to see posting to my blog when I should be working :).
